SOUND LABORATORY: THE CONFLICT AND THE PASSION

Lucy Phillips (Violin) and Beate Toyka (Piano), Upper Chapel, 1:30-2:30

Human emotion laid bare

In a thrilling study of frustrated passions, hear how both Beethoven and Boulez expressed angst in different ways. Local professional violinist Lucy Phillips performs Ludwig van Beethoven’s turbulent Kreutzer Sonata, which tosses between delicate beauty and frustrated passion, whilst pianist Matthew Odell gives us a contemporary take in the form of Pierre Boulez’s Piano Sonata No 1.

In collaboration with University of Sheffield Concerts.
